Justice Omar Ata Bandial remarked that we are strongly against changing the date. Later, the court heard the case indefinitely. Postponed
It may be recalled that on November 2, a three-member larger bench had declared unconstitutional the holding of elections for rural and mahalla councils on non-partisan basis and directed the Election Commission to hold elections on party basis. Take necessary steps to hold elections on the basis that holding local body elections on non-partisan basis is against Article 17 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan had released the schedule for the first phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 25. The notification issued by the ECP said that polling in the first phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be held on December 19.
