Islamabad :
According to details, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice of the National Assembly was held under the chairmanship of Riaz Fatyana. Talking about EVMs during the meeting, the Secretary Election Commission told the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice that the electronic voting machine will be used in the next elections or not. Nothing can be said about this at the moment.
According to the Secretary Election Commission, there are challenges in the use of VM, now 14 steps have to be gone. The Secretary Election Commission informed in the meeting that 3 to 4 more pilot projects related to the use of electronic voting machine will have to be done.
It should be noted that a comprehensive report on electronic voting machine was presented in Parliament by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Among the concerns raised by the ECP about the inability of the electronic voting machine to be used, the ECP termed the expenditure of more than Rs 150 billion for the use of electronic voting machine as a wasteful exercise. This will require 2 to 3 lakh information technology experts. The report submitted by the Election Commission said that 800,000 machines would have to be called for the 2023 elections. Furthermore, in case of incorrect voting on the machine, it will not be possible to cast the vote again. Delivering and returning the machines safely is a big challenge.
