Fire in Indonesia’s largest oil refinery.
An explosion at a gas tank on the site of Indonesia’s largest refinery, in addition to causing a massive fire, evacuated residents in the surrounding area.
The Associated Press reports that a fire at an oil refinery on the island of Java has evacuated at least 80 people in the surrounding area.
Indonesia’s largest oil refinery, located on the island of Java, owned by Indonesia’s largest oil refinery, caught fire at around 7:20 p.m.
According to the report, the source of the fire was an explosion in one of the 228 gas tanks inside the Silakp refinery. The refinery can produce 270,000 barrels of oil per day.
According to the Associated Press, videos posted on social media show a large column of flames and smoke rising from the Silacup refinery.
Accordingly, this is the second time this year that the Silakap oil facility has caught fire.
It is also the second oil refinery owned by Pertamina to catch fire this year. In March, an oil plant in Balungan, west of the island of Java, also exploded overnight, injuring six people. Nearly 1,000 residents were evacuated after the fire.
