Riyadh was accused of sabotaging a climate change summit.
The international organization called “Green Peace” accused the Saudi government of trying to stop the talks at the Climate Change Summit in Glasgow.
An international non-governmental organization called Green Peace has accused the Saudi government of trying to halt talks at the Glasgow Climate Change Summit.
According to the Al-Arabi website, the Green Peace Organization accused Saudi Arabia in a statement of sabotaging the outcome of the talks on climate change. The NGO accused Riyadh of blocking decisions to promote adaptation to climate change. Better adaptation to climate change is an important issue for countries that are most vulnerable to climate change.
Jennifer Morgan, the director of the international organization, called on other countries to isolate the Saudi delegation. However, the decisions made at the Climate Change Summit must be taken unanimously, which means that no country can be completely marginalized.
Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest oil exporter and has shown little interest in phasing out fossil fuels, although most experts say it is necessary to control global warming.
Saudi Arabia plans to increase its National Oil Company’s production capacity from 12 million barrels per day to 13 million barrels per day by 2027, despite its commitment to zero pure carbon emissions by 2060.
“No country, including Saudi Arabia, is immune to the catastrophic risk of rising temperatures,” Morgan said. “In fact, the Persian Gulf region is warming even faster than the global average.”
