US spying on its ally in Asia exposed.
South Korea has revealed that the US spy agency operated a secret service in the country until last year and used it to spy on the country.
According to Sputnik, the secret office was discovered after three Korean employees complained to the US government about their illegal dismissal.
The three employees were hired by the office. The office operated under the CIA’s “Open Source” program between 2005 and 2009 and fired the three local staff members in 2020.
These individuals stated in their petition that their dismissal was unfair because there was no justifiable and necessary reason to do so.
However, the Central District Court of South Korea has rejected the lawsuit, declaring that the expulsion of these individuals is a decision by an independent state and is outside the jurisdiction of this court.
The CIA closed all its “open source program” offices last year.
CIA spying on South Korea is the latest case of US spying on its allies.
This summer, European media revealed that the United States had used Denmark’s secret service to spy on the leaders of many European countries, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
French President Emmanuel Macron has demanded an explanation from Washington and Copenhagen, saying spying on European allies and partners is unacceptable. The White House has promised to resolve the issue with its allies through “appropriate” national security channels.
