According to details, in his message on microblogging website Twitter, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he had directed immediate relief to the earthquake victims of Harnai while also seeking details of the damage caused by the quake.
The Prime Minister’s Office has received a preliminary report on the damage caused by the quake and the current situation. The Prime Minister directed the Government of Balochistan to provide all possible assistance in providing relief to all the concerned federal agencies.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the best medical aid should be provided to the injured and the federal government would provide all possible assistance in this difficult hour.
On the other hand, the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed his sorrow over the Balochistan earthquake and said that Allah Almighty grant mercy to the victims and pray for speedy recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif lamented the loss of life in the Balochistan earthquake and said that the federal government should play a leading role in the relief operations.
It may be recalled that at least 20 people were killed and more than 300 injured in the quake in different parts of Balochistan. The quake affected Quetta, Sibi, Harnai, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Ziarat and Zhob districts of Balochistan at 3:02 pm. According to the seismological center, the magnitude of the quake was 5.9 while the epicenter was 15 km from Harnai. The quake also damaged more than 70 houses in Harnai and Shahrag. Several people were crushed and injured in different areas. Rescue operations are underway. Emergency has been declared in the hospitals.
