Regarding laying the foundation stone of the project, Federal Minister Asad Umar has also confirmed that the Prime Minister will visit Karachi and inaugurate the infrastructure of Karachi Circular Railway. Regarding the project, it was further informed that Karachi Circular Railway project consists of 3 phases in total. In the first phase, a 43 km long track will be constructed, in which about 15 km of the track will be ground, while the track of more than 28 km will be elevated.
A total of 24 stations will be constructed for the first phase. It has been informed that modern electric trains will be run for Karachi Circular Railway, as a result of which 500,000 passengers will benefit daily. On the other hand, it has been reported that the Karachi Circular Railway, which was operating in Shar-e-Quaid after 21 years, has failed miserably in its current condition. Pakistan Railways is facing severe financial loss from this train service.
According to sources, this track is harming the railways instead of benefiting them, as the costs are high and the revenue is very low. In addition, it stands at various gates until other local trains pass, which is a waste of people’s time. According to experts, the success of local trains in cities around the world is guaranteed by standard gauge, light rail and feeder bus service. While Karachi Circular Railway is being made operational with broad gauge and heavy locomotives, the speed of which has been kept technically slow due to the nearest stations.
According to experts, it is taking a long time for passengers to reach their destination, the operational cost is also increasing while the passengers are not getting access to the stations due to lack of feeder bus service.
