Karachi :
Students of Usman Institute of Technology in Karachi have revolutionized the Pakistani electric car market by converting a local Mehran car into a low-cost electric car. Any car can be converted into an electric car through the system.
According to details, students of Usman Institute Ghulam Muhammad Lahore, Ahmad Zaheer, Syed Muhammad Hasnain, Mubashir Shirazi, Ata Mustafa, Shaheer Arif and Sameer Basit Shah developed battery packs and motor systems for electric cars under the supervision of Supervisor Dr Abid Karim. Was tested on Mehran car.
Quaid-e-Azam students installed a battery pack and a motor on the rear differential in the car, which turned the Mehran car into an electric car. Any car can be converted into an electric car through the system. The car’s combustion engine will remain active, allowing the car to run on both petrol and electricity at the same time.
Electric cars are slow speeds that cannot be driven on motorways and highways. Those who cannot afford to buy a new electric car will be able to convert their petrol cars into electric cars at a lower cost, with a 7 kW battery pack made from imported lithium iron phosphate cells.
The battery can last for at least 4 to 5 years and the charging cycle can be completed 4000 times. It costs Rs 3 lakh to convert an ordinary car to electricity. The cost of the system can be reduced with the battery. The battery is fully charged in 4 to 5 hours in 7 units of electricity.
Charging a battery costs a minimum of Rs 40 and a maximum of Rs 140. A battery that charges for an average of Rs 100 can run up to 80 km. The speed of the vehicle will be 50 to 60 km per hour. Mehran, FX, Khyber, Sherrad and other vehicles can also be converted to electric.
Students say that the waterproof motor installed in the car can run in water. In case of continuous charging, the automatic system can stop charging. When the circuit is hot, the power supply is also cut off at a temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Passengers are safe from fire accidents.
Usman Institute students say the car prototype can be inspected by any citizen. We completed this project in 6 months. Syed Asif Hassan, a Pakistani based in the United States, is playing a key role in this, who is bearing all the costs of the project. Commercial production will be started to popularize the technology.
