The Prime Minister of Armenia said that his country is ready to normalize relations with Turkey without any preconditions.
According to Fars News Agency’s International Group, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced his readiness to normalize relations between his country and Turkey.
According to the Turkish daily Hurriyet, he said: “In the past, we were ready to improve our relations with Turkey without any preconditions, and now we are ready to build mutual trust between Ankara and Yerevan and continue our relations without preconditions.”
According to the report, the Tass news agency also reported that Pashinyan said at the cabinet meeting that Armenia also wants to start the negotiation process at the highest level to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Pashinyan added that the OSCE Minsk Group has repeatedly said that the Nagorno-Karabakh talks should be resumed in full. We welcome these statements and this position and are ready to participate in the negotiations at the highest level.
The remarks come as border tensions between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan continue, and the Armenian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that two of its troops had been killed on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan’s “Civil Contract” party won early parliamentary elections in June, and he was reappointed Prime Minister of Armenia.
After months of protests in Armenia and demands for his resignation over the November peace agreement, Pashinyan held early elections to end the six-week conflict with the Republic of Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
During the 44-day conflict, Azerbaijan liberated several towns and nearly 300 towns and villages that had been under Armenian control for almost three decades. Turkey sided with the Republic of Azerbaijan in this conflict.
