Pointing to the importance of stability at Kabul airport, the British Foreign Secretary claimed that the speed with which the Taliban were advancing in Afghanistan surprised the London government.
According to Mehr News Agency, British Foreign Secretary Dominique Robb in an interview with Sky News claimed that the situation at Kabul Airport is stabilizing. He also stressed that the stability of the situation at Kabul Airport is of key importance.
In another part of his remarks, Rob announced the deployment of another 200 troops to Kabul to ensure the safe departure of Afghan citizens from Afghanistan. Thus, the number of British troops sent to Kabul will reach 900.
Meanwhile, it is likely that a number of troops will be sent to the region to expedite the exit operation from Afghanistan, if necessary.
In another part of his statement, he claimed that Britain was surprised by the speed and scale of the Taliban’s advance and the fall of Afghanistan to the group.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Haiku Moss made a similar claim: “All of us, including governments, intelligence services and the international community, have misjudged the situation in Afghanistan.” After the withdrawal, we were certainly not in a position to assess that the Afghan armed forces were not ready to confront the Taliban.
