CNN reported on the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul: “The current situation in Afghanistan has once again dealt a fatal blow to the image of the United States in the world and has raised doubts about Washington’s position among its allies.”
According to IRNA on Monday, the American news network CNN reported: Biden’s challenge now must be to prevent the narratives about the failure of his government. The president is already facing another epidemic in his country as many conservatives refuse to receive free and life-saving vaccinations. Despite Biden’s victory in the infrastructure budget and job creation, Republicans point to rising inflation and the growing number of undocumented immigrants at the border, calling it a crisis during Biden’s presidency.
However, given the American public’s skepticism about the cost and consequences of the post-9/11 wars, it is too early to judge the current crisis and its impact on the Biden administration.
But at the international level, the awful US withdrawal from Afghanistan has cast doubt on Washington’s viability as an ally.
Biden’s first foreign policy crisis, following the destabilizing presidency of his predecessor, President Donald Trump, was the withdrawal of his troops from Afghanistan. “The United States has returned to its original position,” Biden said during his first trip to Europe earlier this summer.
CNN noted that the Biden government’s stance in support of democracy outside its borders will be weakened by its decision to leave the fragile democratic government in Afghanistan.
With the Taliban advancing in Afghanistan, which has taken control of much of the Central Asian country, many analysts describe Washington’s costly intervention in the country as a major setback.
“The fall of Afghanistan in the wake of the US withdrawal is a catastrophe that could have dire consequences for Washington’s credibility on the world stage, especially against Russia and China,” Hill said.
Biden recently announced the deployment of 5,000 troops to Afghanistan to facilitate the withdrawal of American citizens from the country. Washington has previously said it has sent 3,000 troops to withdraw its embassy staff from Kabul as the Taliban advance into Afghanistan.
Although Western media have reported that the forces have been sent to secure the departure of diplomats and foreign nationals, some sources have said that the forces have come to Kabul to secure flights and transfer power in Afghanistan.
