According to Reuters, the German candidate for Chancellor of the Green Party stated that the European Union should impose stricter rules on the import of Chinese products, thus preventing dumping and low environmental standards.
“We have to maintain our standards while dumping is taking place in other parts of the world,” Analna Bairbock said in an interview on Saturday. This can be an additional cost, for example, for companies that receive subsidies in the Chinese market or are subject to environmental standards.
Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats are leading in the September 26 general election, but a weak showing in some polls has paved the way for a tripartite coalition of Greens, Social Democrats and Liberal Democrats.
