In a joint meeting with representatives of the United Nations, the European Union and the United States, Britain, Russia, China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Qatar, Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the Afghan High Reconciliation Council, called on the international community not to remain indifferent to the Afghan crisis.
“Isn’t it time for the world to send a clear message to the Taliban?” He told representatives of these countries and international organizations.
Referring to the recent meeting of the Afghan delegation with the Taliban in Qatar, Abdullah said: “A few days ago here in Doha, we talked for 48 hours with Taliban representatives and agreed to speed up negotiations and a political solution through a mediator, but the Taliban violated this commitment.” And they intensified war and violence and launched their offensive attacks on cities.
The chairman of the Afghan High Reconciliation Council added: “As a result of intensive talks with the Taliban, we discussed key issues and stressed that a political solution and a comprehensive and inclusive peace should be the focus of the talks, but the Taliban were not ready to discuss key issues.”
“We are ready to put an end to the current crisis, but the continuation of the current situation and the ambiguity in the peace debate are no longer acceptable to our people, and the people have serious questions about the continuation of these fruitless and unilateral efforts,” he said.
Abdullah said that there is a danger that the Afghan crisis will spread and become dangerous, adding: “No country, including the countries around the table, will benefit from the current crisis in Afghanistan.” Isn’t it time for the international community to send a clear message to the Taliban about peace?
The head of the High Reconciliation Council also called on the Taliban to put their plan for a political solution on the table and to accept the presence of a mediator in the negotiations, knowing that the current crisis has no military solution.
